Back in 2010 Cuptakes began as a simple idea to create beautiful wallpapers for all your devices and it’s been a pleasure to have the opportunity to brighten your day with fresh new designs every month for nearly 7 years. Over the last couple of years, it’s become more and more apparent that something either needed to change with the app or it was going to be time to close the doors as the expenses for the apps began to exceed the income.
While several ideas have been thought through and extensively researched including the idea of a subscription business model, at this time the really difficult decision has been made to close the doors to Cuptakes. While a subscription model is a great possible model moving forward, the thought is that the market may not be quite ready for that with an app like Cuptakes but is something that can be revisited in the future. If a subscription model is something you would get behind, feel free to get in touch.
We understand this news will come as a shock to a lot of people as there have been so many gracious, wonderful, and loving supporters of Cuptakes over the years, but please know this decision has been weighed very heavily and hasn’t come lightly.
Since Cuptakes began, the app has been continually updated once a month with fresh new wallpapers and calendars all for a one time fee. This means that someone who bought the app back in 2010 has continued getting all those updates for one small fee which is an incredible value. In a world where most people buy a cup of coffee for $5 and it’s forgotten about once the cup is thrown in the garbage, the Cuptakes apps never exceeded $5 and has provided an incredible amount of value through the 6.5 years, 79 months, and hundreds of wallpapers added.
With all this said, it is no longer possible to keep the app active in the app store or the server that stores the wallpapers as it’s costing hundreds of dollars every month to maintain. As of Aug 1, all the apps have been removed from the App store and are unable to be downloaded by any new users. The server will remain active until September 1st, which at that time will have to be suspended, so you are encouraged to open the Cuptakes app and download all the wallpapers that you have grown to love before then. We do wish we could keep the server up for longer but unfortunately the cost of that is something we will be unable to sustain for long.
Thank you to everyone that has supported Cuptakes over the years and for giving it years of great success.

Answers to some common questions:
Why can’t you leave the wallpapers up?
Ideally leaving the wallpapers up is absolutely what we would like to happen. However, all the wallpapers are stored on a server so that they load quickly on your device and don’t take up so much space that you aren’t able to have as many apps on your phone as possible . With hundreds of wallpaper designs, using an outside server was the best way to serve the wallpapers to all the users of the app. This said, the server cost every month is the most expensive monthly cost. With that expense and no income from the app, the server will have to be discontinued.
Can we still have access to the wallpapers to download?
Yes! One more month has been paid for the server so you are encouraged to open the app and download all your favorite wallpaper designs before September 1st.
